The only movie I really liked him in was Silent Running.
"Let's go see the new Bruce Dern movie" said noone ever.
Hollywood likes him, though, because he still appears in a lot of things.
But he's one of only a few actors that I don't think I would enjoy hanging out with. If he's anything at all like the characters he plays, I'd rather avoid him.

I like the characters he plays. They always have that reticent, moderately deranged intensity.

He does a good bad guy. Down Periscope, The 'Burbs are two I can think of he was in. I was getting him mixed up with that other bad guy in Under Siege. (Gary Busey)
