I'm watching "Roustabout":

Chick: "I like you Charlie, but do you think maybe I'm a little too mature for you?"
Elvis: "Women are like wine, they improve with age."
Chick: "But you don't drink."
Elvis (with that Elvis look): "I'm an alcoholic."

He then collects her up into his arms and runs his tongue straight down her throat.
Now THAT'S how you get that done!

Just remember the advice Elvis's father gave him:

"You should make up your mind either about being an electrician or playing a guitar, and I never saw a guitar player that was worth a damn".

He was before my time, and to be honest, his whole shnick , is more clown act, than music..
and most likely why it fits in vegas and has lasted so long..
I like some of his music/songs.. but the over the top look/act reminds me of Elton John and Liberace, where the flamboyance of the outfits, and "rockstar act" overshadows the music..
And what I mean about overshadowing the music, people know the look, show almost anyone a photo of a vegas "elvis" and they'll think, elvis,, even show them a photo of the cartoon "johnie bravo" and they'll say elvis..
The music.. most can't list off his songs, compared to those that see a person with a look will think elvis..

Having been a D.J. when I was younger, there was much better musicians and song writers, but didn't have the "swagger" that allowed "elvis" to be huge, and others standing in the shadows..

There's always someone who feels it's their duty to be a buzzkill in a harmless thread meant for fun.

He was before my time too and you can say what you want about his movies and his Las Vegas shows but his early recordings influenced a generation of musicians and he was instrumental (no pun intended) in bridging the color gap. He didn't just take black blues and water the songs down, he made them his own in a new style. His debut album was the first rock and roll album to top the billboard charts and it did so for ten weeks. He was also key in bringing the guitar to the forefront of pop music, replacing the piano.
