I remember seeing the movie Vanishing point when it first came out. Possibly in a local theater. Several years ago I saw it on TV and (from what I remember) they took out a bunch of scenes. Or do I remember 2 different movies?? It has been a very long time, like 40 years now. I bought the Vanishing point movie CD recently and watched it last night. The one scene I remember is when he picks up (I thought it was one) gay person (on my CD it was 2 gay people). After this gay person got in the Challenger they showed (from a higher view) the Challenger burning it's tires. I clearly remember that from 40 years ago but it is not that way on my CD I have of this movie. Then he stops and kicks out the rider and again (from a higher camera position) he again burns out and leaves long black rubber marks on the pavement. I seem to remember there were many scenes where he burned out and left long black rubber on the roads. Am I thinking of a different movie??? Were there 2 versions of this movie?
BTW, I have no idea about the one or two gay guys. I'm thinking I may have erased that part from my memory.

My Uncle Frank was a staunch Conservative and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago. Since then he has voted Democrat. Shrug
I also saw it at the movies when it first came out, yes there were naked boobies, the girl riding the dirt bike in the desert at the guys house who helped him get past the road block that was ahead and pulled his mini bike off the roofs girlfriend.
And yes there were 2 gay guys he threw out of the car.
I only have short term memory loss, things that long ago I remember very well. Steve

There have been two different versions of this movie. The original and then a TV remake (with Jason Preistly playing the DJ IIRC). The remake changes a few things, for one thing, the main character is hauling a$$ in the Cuda because he's trying to get across the country to his dying wife before she kicks the bucket, making him a much more sympathetic character, and of course, since it was a made-for-TV version, there is no nudity etc etc.
Anyone have any idea of that movie I am thinking of that had (I think) a Challenger and they did many burn outs? Probably back around 1970-1972ish. Might even have been a white Challenger?

Thanks Rodney
That was the original vanishing point that I posted the full trailer of in my last post.
It's not uncommon. I've seen multiple versions of Smokey and the Bandit. The TV version is different from the original film version, and at least two different DVD releases are each different from the other. Different scenes, different sound mixing in the same scene, etc.
On a TV version of Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn, there was an extra scene in the engine room during the initial attack that showed Peter Preston climbling one of the access ladders while everyone else was running for the door. I don't recall it being in the original film, and it's not on the Blu-Ray release. It was only a few seconds, but it clearly showed him running toward the problem while others fled.

I don't remember if it was a Challenger or Charger. But yeah, it was a white Mopar. And yeah, he did several burnouts. I remember the naked girl on the motorbike, but not the gay guys... go figure.

Just before I left the Houston area in '08 to move here, I was at my local mechanic's shop when one of the cars from that movie was brought in on a flatbed. It was in horrible condition. iirc, a new owner was going to have it rebuilt.
The original was made in the early 70. It featured a white '70 Challenger R/T (Actually, there were several of them used in the making of the movie.) The girl on the motorcycle and the gay guy(s) and the smoky burnouts were all in there. I believe there was a remake, fairly recently, that everyone said sucked.
Talking to my shop guy yesterday he also remembers a lot of tire smoke etc in that movie. I'm thinking I have a made for TV version? I'm going to keep looking to find the version I remember.
One of my car buddies in high school had a brand new 72 challenger with the 340 6 pack I think it was, I had a 67 firebird with a 400, another had a 65 galaxy with the 460 interceptor and another had a 65 Chevy 454, the last 2 I may be wrong about the exact years and motors but we all had the fastest cars in my school and would always race at a then defunct airstrip in the next town over on the weekends.
Good times and safer than racing on the streets of Worcester, MA. Although we did race cars on interstates after 2 AM when there we no other cars on the roads back then in 71/72. Back then all we had were lap belts and rarely wore them, no one ever wrecked there cars but I and the kid with the galaxy both ended up off the road into fields at least once.
Fair warnings to all those young kids now street racing, back then all the cops ever did to us was give us a warning not to do that and that we could get killed. but that was back in the early 70's. There were a lot less cars on the roads back then when we raced as well at 2 AM.

I don't know if you can even buy the all original Vanishing Point. It got modified and cleaned for TV.
I enjoyed that movie allot back in the day. It was really about a guy with the values of the gentlemen's circuit racing in the 1950's and early 60's coming into conflict with the new breed of people. I should see if I can find one.

My friend seems to think he watched it on a VCR way back when and it was the unedited version. His friend may still have that VCR tape. I'm maybe going to get on a Challenger forum and ask around. Those on that Challenger forum would certainly know.
Nope there she is Victoria Medlin was an actress, known for Vanishing Point (1971), The Resolution of Mossie Wax (1973) and The Groove Tube (1974). She died on February 27, 1978.

here is the UK version, will only play on your computer as it is the wrong kind of program or what the frig ever that is, but it does have a deleted scene in it that wasn't even on the movie at the theaters. of him picking up a hitchhiking woman and smoking a joint with her.
