I must have missed this. Where in the explosive spearing of the DS by the SSD did it escape?

I'd have to watch again, but my point stands: The entire fleet concentrated what probably amounted to hundreds of energy weapon batteries at a ship that had no doubt already taken fire by then since the start of the engagement. An A-Wing smashing the bridge was a million to one shot, and not planned.

And the SSD didn't escape. I said that by the time a secondary control bridge would have realized what happened, the ship was already being pulled in, so it didn't escape.

Anyway, without going round and round, the main bullet of my argument is that advancements in technology over a few hundred years by a mostly human Federation with sprinkled in tech from a handful of other races in the Alpha quandrant (none of which have been spacefaring for long compared to Star Wars) cannot hope to compete against a galactic empire that has had 25,000 years to advance all forms of technology.

Other than transporting (which any trek ship would not be able to do since its shields would need to be up during the conflict), ST has zero advantages over SW in a battle.

Don't make me send my imaginary friend "Stretch" over there, Blacktree! He likes to drink imaginary beer and imaginary fight, and he's all out of imaginary beer.

Some people have a pathetically empty life and this is all they have to look forward to, Blacktree. You should see Flamberge dressed for Comic-Con. Or maybe not.

The A-Wing crash was something I mentioned before. Do shields stop only energy, or energy and mass projectiles? Do you need shields for energy weapons and armor for mass projectiles? A shield that may be impervious to energy weapons (aka phasers, turbolasers, etc.) may do nothing to stop a Kamakaze attack.

How much armor does a ship have? Trek ships have to have forcefields to maintain structural integrity - the superstructure can't support itself against the inertia and forces acting on it. I don't know if SW ships are similar.

Navigational deflectors also protect the ship travelling along from dust, rocks and other debris that might be in their path. So yes, shields (in the ST universe) protect against physical objects as well as energy beams.

It's a fun, mindless, intellectual exercise, similar to armchair racing, which, with four tuitions, I am also relegated to.

It can deflect incoming micrometeorites. Whether that same tech that stops dust can stop a fighter is another question. There's cases of it being modified to do almost anything.

In all of the scenarios you have to make assumptions based on understanding of the universe's tech, etc. There's enough inconsistency within each universe's accepted canon you could make the case that either one would win while still staying true to the presented canon. It is fun to theorize and the Trek universe does have far more of it's "tech" explained than Star Wars.
