General Relativity Physicist Kip Thorne is tapped to consult in black hole and wormhole visual design. The results are spectacular and lead to at least 2 scholarly articles about the form and function of black holes.
In order to properly render the visual effects of particles in the accretion disk of a black hole they had to write a new rendering engine from the ground up built around the equations provided by Kip Thorne to properly process the relativistic effects of the gravity near a black hole. All told, the graphics/physics/special effects processing hit 800 terabytes of data and the time required to render a single frame exceeded 100 hours.
I will have to watch that movie i guess.. Its good when real scientists have input into things.
The first trailer I actually saw(Don't remember which trailer it was) I saw Matthew McConaughey was in it and immediately wrote the movie off. After reading that article and watching the accompanying video I may have to watch it, now.

I had the complete opposite reaction. But, I like McConaughey performances in most of the movies I've seen him in. Looking forward to watching this one.
To each their own.

My Uncle Frank was a staunch Conservative and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago. Since then he has voted Democrat. Shrug
With most of the people here having an IQ south of 60, i'm not surprised at all. ( not all, just most )
Don't forget....the average IQ in the United States is 98. That means half the country has an IQ lower than 98.... ouch!!! (Canada is worse....our average IQ is 97)
I see the same people on many documentaries talking about physics/astrophysics.
Steven Hawking Neal DeGrasse Tyson Gregory Benford Michio Kaku Alex Fillipenko Brian Cox
While they spend a lot of time in the public eye, they are all well respected researchers in their respective fields and have contributed greatly to the advancement of our meager understanding of physics. I'm not sure how collaborating a 'non-celebrity' physicist is any different than collaborating with a 'celebrity' physicist when they have the same knowledge and credentials. The only real difference is Kip Thorne has been around long enough to have retired Cal-Tech, and Thorne has never been shy about pushing science into the public eye and trying to stir up interest in the sciences and has been in his fair share of documentaries, NdGT has just been better at it.
