I was having a great summer. Lost 30 pounds and was training for my 31st marathon (25th consecutive Bismarck Marathon). I had run a 1/2 marathon and 10k this summer and I hadn't seen those times since the 1980's. Then 2 weeks prior to my annual fall marathon a had a second bulge develop were there is only suppose to one bulge. Inguinal hernia was the diagnosis. I conned two doctors into letting me run the marathon anyway and scheduled hernia operation the following Monday. I had a ok marathon, nothing great but my consecutive streak is intact. For the surgery they inserted a mesh into the hernia area.
Here is the incision area:
They said my privates might turn black and blue, well they have. Sorry no pics of the privates even I have standards.
This really sucks.
Anyone else have this done? I need some words of encouragement. I am off work for a week and I am going nuts not being able to do anything.

Sounds like things are happening about like they expected. Above all else, do not overdo it! You might feel fine at the time, but things can swell up and make you regret it later.
Reminds me of my vasectomy. Everything was fine, until the dog ran up the stairs and turned the corner at the top, where I was standing. Her tail whacked me across the "boys". My eyes crossed, and my voice went up an octave. Other than that, I was fine.
When I had my vasectomy I bought 2 bags of frozen peas and kept one in the freexer as soon as one started to get warm or not feel as cold as it did I swapped off and did that for 3 days then threw the peas away when the pain was finally gone. Like others have said don't do to much and protect them at all costs, you think they hurt now, wait till a cat jumps on your lap. Steve

I had one done years ago. I didnt have any issues after. I was walking around and back to working in a couple of days although it was a little numb for longer. No black n blue. They told me it could return, but its been great now for over 30 years.
Had the black & blue thing going on there after the testicular cancer surgery. Was told to get plenty of REST and no lifting by the doctor and my wife (RN). Too much to do, I'll be okay or so I thought. Got a hernia not too long after the surgery. Had to have a the hernia surgery. I sat for about a good week after that one. Soooooo, plenty of rest and enjoy the down time for a bit.
I was born with a hernia which was fixed when I was 6 weeks old. I almost died due to a post-op infection.
When I was about 35 a new bulge showed up right at the edge of the old incision so I had to get it fixed. It was discovered during the surgery I have a load of scarring all through the general area due to that infection including around those most important 'bits".
The 45 minute procedure had taken the doc 2 hours and I guess he was pissed that he missed his tee time or something because during post-op I was just coming out from under when he showed up and said "Don't worry Ray, I think we saved ONE of the testicles." Woke right up.
I was black and blue from mid-thigh to navel and recovery took about 6 weeks.
I also had to explain to my wife that the doctor said I was most likely sterile due to all the scarring. She said that was news to her since she'd been through three caesarian births due to my non-functioning "bits".
The video was great, thanks! Thanks Raydar I laughed about your dog now I heart . I got some more pain pills for the weekend. The vicodan goes schedule 2 on the 6th of October so they are going to be a lot harder to get . I promise to take it easy. I go back to work Monday and my new coworker has been told that I can can't lift anything over 15 pounds for 2 more weeks. It should be fun watching her work!!

From the looks of that picture, I think you need to post in the "manscaping thread."
Mine had lots of discoloration after my vasectomy. I was making lots of promises to the Lord. All turned out well. I've been paying off those promises ever since.
Yup, had my lower abdominal hernia repaired last Tuesday. They used a scope through my bellybutton and put in mesh. Lots of purple on the parts and feels like Chuck Norris was practicing roundhouse kicks on my gut. But now I won't have to cross my legs and bend over to sneeze anymore.
