Pretty neat, but it doesn't have the perpetual motion of the Rube Goldberg machines I've always seen...Seems more like a one shot deal without having to reload the ice cubes, string, and buckets of water.

There's a really cool perpetual motion one in the Philadelphia airport that runs about half a dozen pinballs through it. A lot simpler than this one, but still fun to watch

I beleive your are missing the point of a Rube Goldberg machine.

His machines were never a perpetual motion machine.
They were never ment to be simple either.

The point he would relate was how complex and hard it was to turn a "simple task" into a drawn out series of useless steps.

Yep, Rupe Goldberg machines are all about making it overly complex.

Powered by light, had me hoping it somehow ran all the time and kept reloading itself too. Could be a power generator of some kind.
