Benz is credited with his car invention in 1886

But hey! the car was invented in Canada. go fig....

Henry Seth Taylor who lived in Quebec, invented a motorized wagon wheeled buggy in 1867. It was called the Taylor Steam Buggy.

However it had one small problem. He didn't invent brakes...... He ran it off the road about a year after showing it at the Stanstead Fair causing North America's first collision

I figured they had to draw a line somewhere since we could otherwise count Yang Cheng when he accidental lit a hundred fireworks strapped in the back of his cart. Technically, that's a car albeit at fast but deadly one.

That one was counted as "not official" since they were having problems setting up the radar gun to record the speed. Yang Cheng was still reported to have been "pleased" with the initial run despite the fireworks going off prematurely. He promised to repeat the run once he could figure out what province his rocket cart had landed.

Im not sure without checking it (i usually dont bother), but I think Benz is listed as inventing the first 'gasoline internal combustion engine ' powered car.
