Man, I LOVE archive.org!

So much old stuff is accessible there!

I was digging through a bin, and found the mobile robot/webcam thingie I used years ago for the MantyCam, and even though the websites associated with the components were long gone (2007!) the website and much of its forum and support files were still there (including the downloads I needed to get it running again)

That site has been very useful for finding little gems from the past.

Have you come across any? Ever use the site?

It's pretty awesome.

There's lots of old programming/gaming sites that have long since gone, that allow me a trip of nostalgia or where I'm actually looking for things I had bookmarked long ago.

Also of note is the huge collection of media they have archived. Old books, videos, music. Tons of great stuff there

Everything should be freely available, forever. While its good that they exist, they only hold a tiny fraction of what is out there, and what has been lost.

I know, but its better than nothing.

IIt was hard to keep everything, when lots of stuff used to be run on a single (private) server. Wasn't even a matter of privacy, its that some companies just went under when that buble burst and after that...

And not everyone thinks it's important to keep old versions of drivers and software around...

Not that I know what I'm gonna do with the stuff I'm ressurecting, but at least I CAN!

Speaking of that, check this out, released earlier this year:
http://www.openculture.com/...-as-free-ebooks.html
To be sure some of it is outdated material, but a beautiful time capsule of the knowledge and philosophy of the day.
I don't think I'd ever have the leisure time to read it all, but it's nice to know it's available.
