Well as many of you know I drive rigs, I love doing it but it sucks when you want to be home well on a stroke of luck my dad was listning to a radio show when an ad came up for fedex freight 2 miles from where I live is looking for CDL truck drivers so I figured id give it a shot and put in an application and see what happens well not a few hours later I get a call from there HR department wanting an interview with me, Now being that im out all week I had to interview on a sunday which went very well. The whole hiring process took just under a month to complete (all kinds of background checks and forums to sign.) My start date is the 28th I did the whole 2 week notice with my current company because even though im out all week I have nothing to complain about working for gypsum express, They have been very good to me during my employment here and my manager even said if it does not work out at fedex they will take me back. The way fedex works is just great, instead of pay per mile its by the hour. they work off the seniority system on there pole and the nice thing is im the 2nd of about 7 drives they are hiring on so im already moving up the pole pretty fast not to mention they have 3 drivers leaving. the pay is awesome. not going to put what im making hourly but in a 40 hour week ill have no problem clearing $50K a year. they also do over time by the day meaning after every 8 hours between quitting time its time and a half. This is going to be awesome
Quick question... PA is a state income tax-free state, right? When you're driving across the country... you get your paycheck from PA still, right? I know some states are really crazy about that, like... if you literally worked a day in another state, they want some of your cash (usually the liberal states). Does this happen in shipping / cargo?

nah PA has income taxes as far as taxation in other states go, I'm pretty sure the company does get taxed for driving state to state but as a driver mine is just PA income tax.
There are limtis to what you can actually make in the trucking industry. Everyone will promise a million dollars, new equipement, and being home ever (other) night. Fact of the matter is the better (steady) employers will provide good and fiar pay and descent equipment, you will be worked to the legal limit. If you have a spotte driving record you can go with a lower tier carrier who will drive beat-up equipment and skirt the rules but probably pay a little bettter to make up for the other two.
Fact of the matter is due to everyone negotiating the lowest price no carrier will be able to pay what the promise.
Good luck be careful since FedEx has excemption from several motor carrier standard since they are conidered to be an airline rather than a trucking company.

I agree, and good luck man.
Delivering to and from them for a while (They contract with other carriers) I heard some things, good and bad, that would make me not want to go there. But it's all about fit.
So far so good, about to finish my 1st week of CBT's and ill be jumping into a truck next week, 8 hours of desk work should be illegal but when im making $25 an hour to sit in front of a computer all day you will not hear a complaint out of me...

Congrats on the new job.My dad retired from fedx and they threw a heck of a party for him.I guess we might see some action on some of those pretty cars you have?
Second week over and while it kicked my ass I really like working there, the people are nice and its nice getting pad what your worth, you really do find that when your pay check meets your credentials you don't really mind doing the pain in the neck work they give you. granted I have yet to get a paid mile in a truck and I go to sleep hearing fork lifts and beeping in my head but at $25 an hour you will hear no beotching from me.
