We had that happen to us on Lake St. Clair about a dozen or so years ago. Parked at Gull Island, and the heavens just opened up. I actually took the seat off of the ski to protect myself from the firestorm of hail. Nearly everybody on the beach had bruises. Nothing to mess around with.
