All my digital memories were wiped clean.
Simply by placing this:

On top of this:

Luckily, I back everything up once a month on a harddrive I keep in my closet.
But still, I didn't expect magnetism...

P.S. To prove it, I did it twice (don't ask...)!

Yeah, you'll be intrigued... I was.

P.S. I had it all backed up in the closet, but it was still freaky for that 1 second when I realized it was all gone.....40 years of memories....gone.
My computer is to me what most people take for granted in their own head...

I wouldn't have thought your router would give off enough of a magnetic field to affect...well, anything, really. Maybe give you cancer, but that's about it.

This is weird tho. Are you the first to have this happen? Have you called the manufacturer of the router about it?

I didn't research it.
I just know that if you set it on top of the hard drive for an hour while they are both running, the only way you can access the hard drive is to format it first.
Which wipes it clean.

Set the router anywhere else and the drive works perfect during that same hour with those same files.
