Anybody here have an above ground pool with a gas heater? I recently acquired a 24' pool with a heater and am getting ready to install it, but am having trouble figuring out where to locate the heater. The manual says it should be 5' from the pool wall, but that's kinda weird since the pump and filter are going to be about a foot from the pool. Am I supposed to put the filter between the pool and the heater? Couldn't find a pic on the net to help me and the instructions have no pictures.

Anybody have any pics of their installation?

Thanks!

Really ?
A pool heater ?
A 24' pool heater ?
Forgive me. I am not a pool guy. I haven't found one with a boat ramp, . My good friend is a slave to his pool.
What's it gonna cost to heat a 24' above ground pool ? How big are your 'swingers' parties ? A hot tub is good for four people, six is better, '

I was under the impression the pool heater was in the line from the filter returning to the pool.

I have a 28' round pool without a heater. I had an idea of heating the pool that will not incur any cost in energy . You have a skimmer attached to the suction of your pool pump that pushes water through the pool filter after the pool filter I have a automatic chlorine feeder. After the chlorine feeder I would install a coil of 1 1/2" x 300 or 500' of heavy black well poly tube. This coil is approximately 4' in diameter and 2' thick. I would than construct a box to house the coil with a glass window on top to let in the sunlight paint the inside of the box black to absorb heat. I would also use 3/4" or 1" foam on the outside of the box to insulate it. Than turn this box to face the high point of the sun. This should be enough to raise the temperature 10 or so degrees without incurring any energy costs at all. To adjust the temperature you would just have to install a bypass around the coil box for when the pool is getting to warm. My projected cost is under $125.00 for the complete project using scrap wood I have around the house.

Back pressure may be an issue?
May be a small pond pump to just circulate water during hot weather would work better. The "heater" pump, pool pump, could circulate to fast for the pipe? And restrict flow to the filter or pool?
To fast if circulation could cost you more money in the end and not be as efficient as a slower flow pump?

Thanks for the input.

I got everything for free, so I'm gonna use it. My sister has a similar setup and sent me a pic, so we're good on that now.

My dad made up a solar heater for our 28 footer when we were kids. He used lots of black pool hose, some foil backed plastic and some old windows. It took several days to warm it up, but it stayed warm for a long time.

The whole idea is to warm the water up to around 80 degrees, or just enough to reduce the shock when you first get in.

It maybe a requirement for the heater as it needs to be that distance from pool because of water leaving pool. I would mount it as it says in instructions and run the piping as needed. I had an in ground pool with heater.

You will find yourself using the pool more often. I wouldn't keep it heated all the time, just when you need it.

Yes... a pool heater.... if your friend is a slave to the pool, he/she needs to learn how to maintain a pool. A pool is easier than a boat. And that is from my personal experience.

Btw, heating my in ground pool only ran about $20-30 a month. I heated as needed... to 84F. You are in Texas... much different than mid-west.

When I purchased our pool the pump I requested is a 2 speed 2hp pump and will flow at a slow rate just enough to circulate the water with a high speed that will filter (DE) the pool with a complete turn over in 2.5 hours.

I don't have a wheelbarrow. Can I build a fire in the end loader and lower the bucket over the side?

Yes, be sure to wash the bucket thoroughly so you don't get dirt in the pool.
