This morning I saw a comment which corrupted the Obama's children's names into something not obscene but not respectful, either. I found the attacks on Sarah Palin's children during that campaign to be reprehensible. Criticism, or at least discussion, of an adult's stand on any issue is permissible to me, but attacking children simply because of their parents is beyond the pale. When children become of an age to take a stand on issues, then their comments and acts are a subject for analysis. Until then they should be off limits. Attacking a child in any manner because of the positions of a parent is morally corrupt act.

They do it because the have nothing else of value to say. It's the lowest of low.
I agree with the "hands off the kids" idea, BUT it can also be a VERY-VERY effective technique to settle down the parents. I have been in a store where the customer was being "unrully" and also selling dope out of the cash register. ALSO lived above the store with his wife and kids It was AMAZING how fast he settled down when I asked what child services would think of him selling dope from the same place his kids were---he shut RIGHT up !!
Yeh, I know--it was a dirty thing to do. But it worked when nothing else would.
Not here, Red, on a political page i visit occasionally. I was stunned that so many thought this act was ok.
Thank you all. I knew I could count on you to see it as wrong.
Yeah, I used to see the same thing on Chelsea and also the Bush daughters.
Sometimes I think the news just eats that stuff up. There are a lot of mean people in this world, but the media loves to focus and highlight on presidents kids. It's not always a positive thing because it leaves them open to major criticism that wouldn't otherwise be normal for children. I'm sure they have an in-house psychologist to help them deal with what they have to go through on a regular basis. They probably get death threats, weirdo obsessed people, and God knows what else trying to communicate with them or sending them letters.
President's once took criticism of their children personally:
quote
Her father (Harry Truman) made headlines after her third performance in Washington, held on Dec. 5, 1950. Paul Hume, the Washington Post’s music critic, wrote that Margaret Truman “cannot sing very well. She is flat most of the time.”
The furious father dashed off a letter to Hume, warning that if they ever meet, “You’ll need a new nose, and plenty of beefsteak for black eyes, and perhaps a supporter below!”
