It appears to be a raised overhead electric train crossing. The "yards" (the wooden booms that the sails hang from), I assume are longer than the beam of the vessel. I suspect, one of them on the port side clipped something really hot.
High Voltage Pow!
No news is good news. If someone got hurt, it would be on CNN
That's not too far from my house but this is the first time I've heard of it. Local newspapers make no mention of this either.
Apparently he hit the overhead line of the rail tracks. And although it looks spectacular, there wasn't much damage to either the boat or the overhead line.

Well, that's good then! We'll keep an eye on the neighbourhood & let you know if anything dangerous looking is going on...
Yes, it is. "Port" and "starboard" rolls off my tongue easier than "driver side" and "passenger side" I did have to look up "yard"
I think I "woke up at sea" after an night of merriment in a previous life.
If that were the case, and you were in a previous life an old sailing ship crew member, you would be using the terms "larboard" and starboard.
You undoubtedly are already familiar with the nautical term "Charlie Noble", but do you know what the Nome (or gnome) rivet is and where it is located? (no, it's not in farmville)
