While working on BWI airport, had found that there very high restrictions on shipping Mercury. Seems that mercury, if spilled would eat through a planes aluminum skin before it had a chance to land. You are supposed to show proof that you are a doctor or meteorologist to carry a mercury thermometer. Well that's what told me when we worked at the FAA tower. Had been looking at some of there old posters, and found one strange and asked them about it. They had also stated during WWII there were a few commando missions where they were only armed with hand guns and mercury paste(like white lithium grease). They went behind the lines to wipe the paste on plane surface areas. The next days the Germans found many of there fighters with the surface areas eaten away(fun).

Good story, bro. It probably helped that the Germans didn't bother with any security at any airfield, or other military installation, for that matter. Why not make bombs with a semi-liquid mercury compound and drop them over an airfield? The Allies did low level bombing with the P47 and A20, so the opportunity was there.

Boondawg, Pure Virgin Mercury will make her film debut in a new movie with Brad Pitt soon.

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but … after a shooting, the problem is the gun?

My Uncle Frank was a staunch Conservative and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago. Since then he has voted Democrat. Shrug

Between 7 and 11.5 million per flask. For "eco friendly", around 34 million per flask. Source.

I've heard that mercury is almost impossible to get rid of. As in, there are only like two places in the world that recycle it. I have an old thermostat from my home that has mercury switches inside it. I asked how to dispose of it from my HVAC guy. He pointed to the trash. Then put his finger to his lips in a "Ssshhh" gesture.

I think mine is old or something.... It doesn't taste like that at all. Is there a way to tell if it's gone bad?

Just count the days until the doc says you are dead. The older stuff takes longer. The EPA also charges a bigger fine for it.
