It really bothered my two kids,” said parent Majed Moughni, who is Muslim and has two children, ages 7 and 9, in Dearborn elementary schools. “My son was like, ‘Dad, I really don’t feel comfortable getting these flyers, telling me to go to church. I thought churches are not supposed to mix with schools.’ ” Moughni said he’s concerned about “using school teachers paid by public funds … to pass out these flyers that are being distributed by a church. I think that’s a serious violation of separation of church and state.”
But wait for it... You're not going to expect how it turned out. Update
quote
On Sunday morning, Muslim leaders in the Muslim community stood together in solidarity in front of the Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church in Dearborn. The Muslim leaders and Cherry Hill Presbyterian’s pastor, Neeta Nichols, denounced Moughni’s complaint about the Easter egg hunt. Nichols and the Muslim leaders also urged area Muslims to come to the Eggstravaganza and have their children participate. The Muslim delegation donated $500 to the church. The money will go toward the purchase of even more eggs. The Saturday, April 12 event will feature a traditional Easter egg hunt as well as an egg toss and a relay race.
As we reported, Moughni had asserted that the flyers passed out at three Dearborn public schools violate the separation of church and state widely ascribed to the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. The local backlash was fast and furious after Moughni complained, notes The Arab American News. Local Muslims took to social media by the hundreds to condemn his puzzling stance against Easter egg hunts for kids—and to condemn the Detroit Free Press for publishing what they viewed as a misleading article in the first place.
He thought he could raise some ridiculous protest and the Muslim community would have his back no matter what. Thank goodness things are starting to change and he thought wrong. Hopefully he really is starting to represent the minority in the Muslim community. I think he does. He's a fool and hopefully he's not raising his children to be just as foolish.
His 7 and 9 year old kids were bothered by the "politics" of teachers unions and religious issues????? YAHHH RIGHHHTTTT. Not even a "good try" at passing off his agenda via his children. What a looser.
Osama Siblani, local activist and publisher of the Arab American News, said he believes recent news reports of concern over flyers being distributed at a public school in Dearborn for the church’s Eggstravaganza planned for Saturday did not reflect the feelings of the majority of the region’s 46,000 Arab Americans.
“This ‘lone wolf’ voice does not represent the (Muslim) community,” said attorney Nabih Ayad, chairman of the Arab-American Civil Rights League.
Fatina Abdrabboh, director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, said egg hunts are among the memories from her childhood.
The flyer advertises an egg hunt, egg toss and relay race. Siblani noted that the word “Easter” did not appear on the flyer. Nichols said school officials had requested and received edits before the flyer was sent home with students.
Siblani said several Muslim and Arab-American organizations were donating money to help with costs for the event. He said he plans to be there as well.
Thoughtful, positive response. Good to hear.
Thanks for posting, mj.

That's your reaction to what happened here? Really? Reminds me of that old bromide about American baseball: "Hey ump', you're missing a great ball game here today.."

This is what I see is the problem, see the lone wolf is the one who is going to be the extremist and do the suicide bombing of something. while the rest of the story was great the majority of the Muslims got behind the egg hunt as long as the word Easter was left out. we got to watch the extremists.
