I had been keeping an eye out for a somewhat fun car to add to "the fleet".

I have the high mpg econocar for the daily driver--a 2012 Mazda3 manual that was $19,500 sticker and got for $15,500. I thought that was a great mark down for a car that didn't have that much added on to it and that much mark up. I get 36mpg combined with the winter gas and 38mpg combined with summer gas. So am very happy with that one.

I wasn't looking for a new car. Just something somewhat entertaining to drive, with reasonable gas mileage. Didn't need it to be something I could drive in the winter.

I was surprised that the manufacturer and dealer would sell this particular car for $18,500 for, and it seemed like a great value and so I decided to go for it instead of getting a used car.

Anyone want to take a guess at what $18,500 can buy these days, before I reveal it?

You got screwed.
When you reveal it, I will try to get a better price.
They offered it at that price and you did not counter offer ?

No. That was the purchase price.

As another clue, the window sticker price was $24,500. With that starting price, I just never even considered this car would ever sell for $6,000 off sticker price. I expected it to be discounted, but not that much.

Great call! Yes, Mustang.

With the 2015's coming out, Ford has heavily rebated to move the 2014's.

I don't care about the changes for 2015. Independent rear suspension vs live axle doesn't matter to me, because I'm not cornering at speeds where if the pavement is rough, it matters.
I heard interior is a little nicer, but I don't care. Interior is nice enough for me.

I got just the basic 2014 model. Cloth interior. No sync system. I'm old school. Don't value it.

Smallest wheels and thinnest, tallest tires. That is actually an advantage to me because the handling is fine for my non-aggressive driving, and the ride is better.

Sadly, as a concession to family, I got the automatic transmission. I had driven the same car with a manual transmission and I loved it. And could have got THAT for $17,000!

But a 300 h.p. V6 that gets 23-25mpg for $18,500? Compared to what else is available for that price, I thought that was a great value.

My 08 Mustang had the solid axle. Im an old school lover, and its fun to thrash around with solid axle cars...hard to break anything. I do always advise against buying New though unless you plan on keeping it many years. Loss of value in just one year kills you. You will have fun with the Stang. Even the V6 is pretty quick. I think the newer V6 is something like 325 hp. I know they were 300hp just a year or two ago.

I usually don't buy new, either. I think with buying with this much discounted, though, some of the depreciation is already taken out of it. At least it seems that way when I look at what 2013's are going for.

I plan on driving this one a couple of years, and then my youngest daughter will be done with college and I'll likely pass it on to her. She has always wanted one, and is a big reason I compromised what I wanted and got the automatic. She can drive it when home from college, but I wouldn't have her keep it at college.

We are from the same era, roger, so we can remember what cars used to drive like. Even "low end" models like this now are pretty amazing compared to what cars were like when we started driving, regarding handling, power to gas mileage, reliability and comfort.

Wow, my cheap little 2013 Mazda2 was almost that much in October, and I also drive manual.

Looks like I missed out! Congratulations on your new car.

So they havent upped the hp since then. I thought differently. Yours almost has the same hp as my v8 Bullet. I did put headers and tailpipes, hi-po cams, and a tuner in it...but not that much improvement. Still couldnt get rid of that tinny sound when you got on it.

That seems a good price. I like Ford!

That sounds like a great deal to me. So far I like the looks of the current generation better than what's soon to be released.

I was shocked to see that 2014 Mustang prices have already dropped locally. I haven't seen that low but a few dealers are getting below $22,000 on V6 models.

Even it's competitor, the Camaro, is selling very cheap. There is a local dealer about a hour away that has three 2014 Camaros in stock, base model V6s with a manual, for $20,100. One red and the other two the really dark blue. That's just really shocking to me. A facelift 2014 Camaro, with 323 HP - power that is just below C5 Corvette territory - selling for just above $20,000 out the door?

Really tempting like a crack addict needing a fix.

I'm digging how the new one looks. I kind of want to buy a whatever their "SVT" model is going to be... Unfortunately, I just bought a large home and going to be house poor until I get it paid off in 5 years. I'm sure my wants will have changed drastically. Not to mention it scares me buying a new vehicle. I've only ever been happy with 1 vehicle that I've purchased that wasn't a Ford F-Series and that I don't need the added expense. The 03 SVT Cobra still strikes me though. I am a sucker for that slate color and a blower.

I went on autotrader just poking around to see what 2014 Mustangs went for. I found a dealer in Baltimore Maryland that was going to sell to me for $18,500. I was ready to fly out there, and drive home. But then Morrie's in suburban Minneapolis came through with the same price. It was still just short of 400 miles one way, but then driveable from Milwaukee area. So I bought there.

That was about $1,300 lower than I could get a local Ford dealer to sell for.
In a sense, this car is just a "stripper". That's what we used to call the very basic model years ago. I don't if anyone says that anymore. No bluetooth. No sync. No navigation. No sunroof.

But it has a/c, power steering, power door locks, remote locks, power windows, power mirrors. And it has a V6 that gets 305 h.p.

Yes, I was honestly surprised they were discounting that heavily that quickly. Made me think the 2015's are coming out in a month or so? And sure, they are very nice. But for the money off, not worth the difference to me since I was going for the V6.
If someone wanted the V8, the horsepower is up some. And if they want a 4 cylinder turbo, then it is the 2015.

I drove the 2014 Mustang for a few days a few months ago. It was a nice, solid, FAST car. Nice interior (felt better than the "plastic'y ones from a few years earlier.

Enjoy it!

I have to admit that a popped hood on any DOHC V8 Mustang always amazes me how they managed to squeeze that much motor in there. You're smart paying off the house ASAP and then having a little more spending money down the road.

Congrats on the new ride!

pip is limited to 100kb, I believe I usually let the camera take at whatever resolution it wants, then use a program like http://www.getpaint.net/ to resize and adjust quality of the uploaded one until it fits. That way the original is still good

You had to post this right at the time that I'm waiting on a phone call to see if I get a huge job promotion and will need to make some adjustments in the car stable and the wife wanting a new car. The only ones I'm seeing right now in the area at that price are convertibles. I guess it's worth checking at Morrie's to see if they can get me the same deal. Frontal lobe, could you pm me the salesman's name and number?

I did not realize this was the case. I rarely post photos, so that would explain why. I personally use dropbox, but really only like to share images with people I know. You can't do dropbox on a forum (maybe if you put it in the "public" folder) do to the links being httpS. PIP has always been clunky for me, so I've not used it since I first used.
