Letterman is retiring. I don't watch him anyway. I just don't get his sense of humor but, who should replace him?
I like Howie Mandel for the job but, I doubt he wants it.
Heard someone suggested Howard Stern. I'm thinking that's a quick way to kill the time slot if not the network. Just my opinion.
Chris Rock? Ellen DeGeneres? Who?

My Uncle Frank was a staunch Conservative and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago. Since then he has voted Democrat. Shrug
As weird as that sounds, he actually is one of the candidates.
I love Letterman. We don't get his shows here in the Netherlands so I'm stuck at watching clips on YouTube. Even so, I think he's still one of the funniest guys around.
Let Craig Ferguson move up a timeslot but don't let anyone tell him what to do with his show. As long as the creative types keep creative control, it'll be fine.
I don't think they will go with Ferguson, but either way, his contract says he will get $8 million bonus if Letterman retires and he doesn't get the job.

I really don't care because we don't own a TV but as nurb said, who needs another talk show? But if you gotta have one, get Robin Williams--the funniest man in my estimation since Groucho and Don Rickles.
When Johnny Carson died, I stopped watching all of the late night shows. No one has been able to do a show like he did.
I only watched Carson.. ( well that and NBC overnight, but that was different.. it was a tongue-in-cheek news program, early 80's i think.. its been a while )
He was a class act, something that you dont have now.

Samuel L Jackson. Why not? He's been in everything else... Heck, I don't watch Lettermans show now. I sure as heck wouldn't start if they gave him the position.

Anyone remember this show? (The show title became a famous line in the Shawshank Redemption movie). I remember watching this show after it was later renamed "Who do You Trust".

While not really related to this topic, all I'm going to say about Mr. Jackson is this, if you bought the tickets, I still wouldn't go see him in anything. He used to be one of my favorite actors but no longer. His lack of good judgment has given me reason to re-consider. He has some serious character flaws. I'll leave it at that.

David is 'alright', I don't think he's too funny. Not the last decade or so...But Craid Ferguson makes me lmao. He's so out there, with the skelton sidekick and the horse and his bizzare interview style. Wish he wasn't on so late, but maybe my exhaustion adds to my perception of how funny he is...
Anybody else a Steve Harvey fan? I only saw a glimpse of his daytime show, the other day, but he's a really funny guy. I'm not sure how that would translate to late night, but still...

I like both Harvey and Ferguson, but the network is looking for someone (younger) to compete with Kimmel--I don't think either of those can. Jackson is a great actor, and has vocal political beliefs similar to Letterman, but he is not a comedian IMO, and would not be a good late night comedy show fit either.
I've heard of Colbert and even watched his program or part of it a few times. I was not entertained enough then to stay with him so, I doubt I'll be watching him after the news now. Never was a Letterman fan. Carson and Leno have always been the best. I am not impressed with Leno's replacement now. Guess I'll be getting more sleep now.

After watching Letterman bash the right for about a decade, while kissing Obama's butt, it will be very interesting to see what Colbert does with this spot.

I expect that we'll see the program theme go even further in that direction.

Just to be clear... you do know that Colbert's gig is an act, right? He is poking fun at the right (and left).
Remember when the FOX 'news" channel tried to do their right wing version of Comedy Centrals Daily Show? http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...e_1/2_Hour_News_Hour It wasn't funny, and even if it had been, the FOX audience seems to be somewhat lacking in the humor department. In spite of Ruperts million$, The show was a dismal failure. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887788/ No wonder you guys don't 'get' late night TV.
Steven Colberts Colbert Report on Comedy Central is a spoof of Foxes O'reilly Factor. Its a joke, and usually a pretty funny one. He's an actor playing a character..... Get it?
