Weird. I hope this doesn't become more widespread. The report says that Mazda will reprogram some of the recalled vehicles engine control software. So you are probably thinking, what's that got to do with these spiders? This NBC news report doesn't explain that, but another one that I read has the answer. When the spiders build their webs and cause blockage to the evaporative canister vent line, the engine control software has been reacting in a way that causes the fuel pressure in the gas tank to oscillate, and that causes the plastic gas tanks to flex and eventually crack, which can cause vehicle fires. Part of the Mazda recalls is to reprogram the software to prevent these fuel pressure oscillations under the blockage condition.

The culprit species that is attracted by gasoline vapors is commonly known as the Yellow Sac spider.

Sure you did.

Mike,
Please ask your lovely wife to ensure you're taking your meds correctly.

It really is for your own good.

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but … after a shooting, the problem is the gun?

My Uncle Frank was a staunch Conservative and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago. Since then he has voted Democrat. Shrug
