Correction: All we know is that the e-mail I sent was successfully
relayed by a server downstream from my in-house SMPT server to some other mail server (presumably Google) further downstream for delivery. Note that all of your mail domain's DNS MX records point to Google mail servers. (See below.) The downstream server is flagged as "non-DSN aware," which means that it won't report back further progress of an e-mail. The known mail path was:
My PC --> My in-house SMTP server --> Time Warner/Road Runner SMTP "smart relay" --> Downstream SMTP server (Google?)
FWIW, my local community college used to run their own e-mail servers, but they've since outsourced their e-mail to Google. All the college's e-mail is now handled the same way as above: My public e-mail address there is
[my mailbox]@stumail.jccc.edu, but the
stumail.jccc.edu DNS MX records all point to Google mail servers. (See below.) The normal mail path is as follows:
My PC --> My in-house SMTP server (on my LAN) --> Time Warner/Road Runner "smart relay" --> Google SMPT server (for
stumail.jccc.edu)
Bottom line: It looks like your e-mail is being delivered successfully to Google's servers. The problem appears to be in your access to retrieve it.
Edit: To correct information based on further testing
Here are what the DNS MX records look like for the
stumail.jccc.edu domain, where I have a mailbox:
# nslookup -type=mx stumail.jccc.edu
Server: 127.0.0.1
Address: 127.0.0.1#53
Non-authoritative answer:
stumail.jccc.edu mail exchanger = 10 aspmx.l.google.com.
stumail.jccc.edu mail exchanger = 20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
stumail.jccc.edu mail exchanger = 20 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
stumail.jccc.edu mail exchanger = 30 aspmx2.googlemail.com.
stumail.jccc.edu mail exchanger = 30 aspmx3.googlemail.com.
stumail.jccc.edu mail exchanger = 30 aspmx4.googlemail.com.
stumail.jccc.edu mail exchanger = 30 aspmx5.googlemail.com.
Here are what the DNS MX records look like for BDub's
[xxx.xxx] domain:
# nslookup -type=mx [xxx.xxx]
Server: 127.0.0.1
Address: 127.0.0.1#53
Non-authoritative answer:
[xxx.xxx] mail exchanger = 10 aspmx.l.google.com.
[xxx.xxx] mail exchanger = 20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
[xxx.xxx] mail exchanger = 20 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
[xxx.xxx] mail exchanger = 30 aspmx2.googlemail.com.
[xxx.xxx] mail exchanger = 30 aspmx3.googlemail.com.
[xxx.xxx] mail exchanger = 30 aspmx4.googlemail.com.
