Is this oil from this Vette? Possibly it was from something else and was on the floor before hand? If it was from this Vette was it for sure from the engine?
It's pretty clear from watching the videos that the oil on the floor had spewed out of the Vette.
They spend all that money to pull the Vette out of the hole... and then they pull a dumb stunt like that.

Wonder if they'll get a fine for fluids that leaked into the ground down in the hole.
Probably not, but they should make sure that the contaminated soil is removed (if any exists). I grew up with well water and I am sure others would like their water to be oil/chemical free as possible.
Since the windshield glass and structure are destroyed, i see a great candidate for a wrap around short plexiglas racing windshield like on the original Grand Sport racers.... It looks exactly like one of my Corvettes...except I added ghost flames in Grand Sport stripes in red.

Being at the bottom of 100 tons of concrete and dirt probably didnt help it after the fall, lol. Might salvage the wheels and tires. Rest looks like scrap to me. Maybe add it as is to a display...
Okay, so not exactly cars, but Bobcats - but still quite cool. You might remember that the National Corvette Museum had that little divot that needed to be filled in. Turns out the construction firm of Scott, Murphy & Daniel doing the work is using two remote-controlled Bobcats to fill the sinkhole with "manufactured sand," which in this case is crushed limestone.
It appears that the Bobcat company has offered remote operation since at least 2007 via a wireless transmitter that works up to 1,500 feet away. So yes, that means two SMD employees stand on the edge of the pit and flick joystick levers for hours at a time, one in charge of a Bobcat with a roller-compactor attachment, the other in charge of a Bobcat with a bucket. And that, to us, is a pretty good way to earn the daily bread. Check out the video above for the latest sinkhole update.
Cool, now that's a remote control car I wouldn't mind playing with, I wonder just how many construction equipment vehicles are now available with RC? Also if you get paid lass or more for being the operator.

It will be great to see them reopen the dome. Below is a couple pics I took of one of the very damaged vets. Just take it to Maaco America's #1 Bodyshop they are having their half off paint sale! That's where I always take my show cars so they should repair this vets slight blemish.
Ill just take a wild guess that it was just natural erosion. There are lots of caverns and caves in that area of the country. Just underground water or stream would eat out the ground, just like any sinkhole. Its probably been getting eaten away for hundreds of years. I wonder if they should start doing ground penetrating radar surveys before construction jobs now since it seems to be happening a lot more.
The first time I visited the Corvette Museum it was a secondary reason to be in the area, the primary was to visit Mammoth Cave. I was on one of my cross country trips and wanted to stop at Mammoth Cave and as I was driving up I 65, I saw the museum. After my visit to the cave, I stopped back at the Corvette Museum. I stopped a second time while I was on the Hot Rod Power Tour 2010. It is an interesting place full of cars I can not afford, even when the Corvettes were $4-5000 back in the 60s.
I believe Roger has the reason for the collapse, the lime stone rock formations in the area have washed away over the millennia and the collapse of those formations due to water washing the rock away. No one knew what was 50 or 100 feet under ground when the museum and factory was built.
This thread is also a great example of why not using PIP is a bad idea.
I have to agree somewhat - I personally think PIP sucks, why do I need extra software. What the forum needs is a drag and drop for picture posting - or - an 'upload link'. I am on a couple of other forums that use this method with no extra software needed.

The software does suck (sorry Cliff), but it results in the images being hosted on the same server that the threads are, and the old threads (and images) end up being available for reference for a LONG time, not just a few months.
Corvette Museum Sinkhole Filled; National Nightmare Over
So how many tons of limestone was used to fill the massive sinkhole? The Corvette Museum won't say, and that's because they're running a contest where if you guess correctly at this Surveymonkey site, http://surveymonkey.com/s/sinkholefill, you can win a print that commemorates the Blue Devil ZR1 being triumphantly lifted out of it.
