I recently bought a 1986 fiero SE from a junkyard to fix it up just to find out that the gas tank and fuel pump has been seriously rusted and I came on here to see if anyone had any for sale I’m willing to pay for shipping. I am located in Abilene, Texas.

Give your post a few days for an answer just because it's the holidays. There are many people who are selling tanks on here. Just be patient for their reply. Welcome to the forum.

Yes, 'good used' fuel tanks are still available, BUT I believe shipping them is the 'real' issue IF it isn't 'new'.....

Larry Hubbert is one of these members who has and sell 'used' tanks and posted *this* recently:

The big problem is shipping them and what you need to do just to get the EPA permit to ship them because they are not brand-new fuel tanks.

The EPA has some very stringent and steep regulations where shipping these are concerned, as well as securing a legitimate permit to do so. Now should you get caught shipping a used fuel tank the fine is a killer, plus you can be subject to immediate arrest, and the tank is immediately confiscated as it is considered shipping Hazardous Materials.

PS - I saw NEW Aftermarket Fuel Tanks for the Fiero if you don't find a used one...

I have one reconditioned 88 Fiero GT fuel tank still available here in Holiday, FL 34691. The problem is shipping them due to the Stringent EPA rules on used fuel tanks as previously mentioned throughout various posts on this forum. The 88-fuel tank will fit into your car even though they have a slightly larger capacity if you use the 88 straps and plate in place of the ones on your car. I have these parts as well and will provide them with this tank. If you are still interested, please PM me here on here for pix and prices.
Another alternative especially if you cannot locate one is to visit some local radiator shops and see if they will clean and test your existing tank just like they do on auto radiators. Most shop in my area will perform this service and also fix any leaks (if possible) at a nominal charge or you can tackle this process using White vinegar, a piece of chain and some elbow grease. I hope that this helps and, in the meantime, have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year.

I just had a badly rusted tank cleaned and coated by a local radiator shop. Cost was $175.

BTW - If the tank is only rusted meaning not leaking, buy a gallon of *this* which will remove all the rust...the stuff is excellent and will eliminate it easily!

After removing the rust, use Red-Kote to seal the tank. It even seals pinhole’s up to 1mm. Follow the instructions and you will be pleased with the results. Its even compatible with E85 fuel.
