I am collecting parts for my swap to a LS4. The main item I am having trouble finding is a 6 speed Tranny (F20) the 3 people that I got connected to turned out to be scammers. So, if anyone has an F40 or can give a lead on one I would GREATLY appreciate the help.
Now all I have to do is finish this damn Reveton kit car

Joe, I don't know if you made a typo but you first mentioned an F20 which is longitudinal, then you mention F40 which is different. Which do you need?

Sorry about the typo. I need a F40 to mate to my LS4, I don't want to run a slush box (which I have).

I would encourage you to use the 4T65eHD transmission that GM designed to work with the LS4 and other engines. Its a simpler install. IIRC the LS4 block doesn't have a place for the starter to mount making the fabrication of a starter mount under the engine necessary. I believe the F20 is a five speed box, If I am wrong perhaps the LS4 swap guys can chime in.

Thanks for the input. I have built a number of LS4 powered Fiero's with the automatics. This is my personal car that I built years ago, and I am ready for a new power plant. That is why I am looking for a 6 speed manual. I do not like slush boxes in my car.

Can't argue with personal taste but the difficulty of installing the starter on LS4 manual swaps is an issue that you will have to deal with. On the LS4 the starter mounting is on the transmission and that may require fabrication of a bracket and a redesigned oil pan. You probably know all this already. The LS4 is a good V8 and those swaps are nice so good luck and keep us posted.

If only there was a bolt-on starter solution that would allow running the LS4/F40...
It has existed since 2010 and doesn't need any modifications to the oil pan.

The starter is one of the easiest things about the LS4/F40 combo.

So beyond the f40 (being the latest manual trans that works with our swaps), has anyone done more research on a newer alternative (GM or other)? I've seen Picket Performance on FB show examples of a newer 6 speed automatic and perhaps a Honda style transmission they are looking to mate to a LS4. Since the F40 is becoming harder to obtain it would probably be beneficial to someone who could research a more common alternative. My project list is maxed out, so I have to claim "not it" at the moment
