I have a 4 spd shifter but need a 5 spd shifter for my F40 swap. Will buy a 5 spd, trade a 4 spd for a 5 spd or sell the 4 spd outright for $25.00. Thanks, Kevin.

I beleive you will find a four spd shifter can easily be made into a five spd shifter.As a matter of fact some pieces have to be added to the five spd shifter to make it into a four spd shifter.Step one take the shifter out of the car.(that is the hard part).Step two take off the backup light switch and bracket.Step three take off detent roller.There all done,I just saved you about sixty dollers.R,T.

According to Fieroguru, The 5 spd shifter can be used, un-modified, except for a reverse lock-out that needs to be added. He said you'll get a better up-shift from 2nd to 3rd with the 5 spd when used for the F40. He modified a 4 spd for his first F40 swap but prefers the 5 spd. Just repeating what he advised.
But thanks for the info. I may end up using the 4 spd shifter if I can't find a 5 spd.
