I thought the fuel sending unit on the 88 was different than other yrs but I could be wrong.

The different sending units will fit other tanks. The only difference is how the fuel lines coming out of the sending unit are bent. The 87-88 V6 units have the vent line bent a certain way for the expansion tank, and the 85-86 V6 units are bent another way because they didn't have an expansion tank. The main fuel lines on both match up with all years.

I just installed an 86 Sending unit in an 87 tank, which is installed now in my 85 LeMons race car sans expansion tank.
