I have a 86 SE
That I am just in the process of a front and rebuild.
After finally sorting out the control arm bushings issue I had.
The time came to install the front springs
I struggled last weekend with two different spring clamps
Various wire and heavy duty zap straps
I scratched and banged up the brand new powder coated spring
Well today I was able to get one side in.
I moved on to the other side and I will list how I did this with out any clamps
Everything has been powder coated
So the spring cup went in first
I then tucked the spring up and used a heavy duty zap strap to hold the spring up.
I lifted the car up quite high, with the spring holding in place I was able to push the spring over the control arm bump.
It immediately slipped off as the two powder coated surfaces are slippery.
This time I pushed it over the hump and pulled the control arm up just a bit and it stayed put.
I had already had the lower spindle connected
I did this in my 4 post lift with a center jack
I put a block of wood under the control arm and lowered the car
Until I was able to connect the upper control arm to the spindle
It all worked out great on the one side but felt sketchy the whole time like I was waiting for the spring to fly out.
Just wanted to say this forum has been a wealth of info for me much appreciated
Next I’ll tackle the rear and the non working e-brake
