I researched PFF and there's only one or two mentions of members deleting the muffler adjacent to the compressor (88GT).

The Hooker exhaust manifolds on my LS3 (Alden Thomas) swap limit my space for the AC lines. It can be done and I've done it in the past with a SBC swap but it seems tighter now. I'm inclined to make my own lines for the new Four Season compressor and simply delete that muffler.

Have any of you members deleted that canister with no negative impact? It would certainly make things easier!

I am restoring the a/c on my 1987 GT.

I inquired to Cold Hose regarding the muffler (I didn't know what it was and sent a photo) and this is their reply:

"So, that object in question is a muffler. Originally designed for noise reduction. Most people now eliminate it. Reason being it will catch/hold debris in it even if you flush the system."

They sell several fittings that replace the fitting/muffler assembly. Cold Hose sells three options. Call them.

My old fitting/muffler was not leaking and my system is free of crud.

I dd not eliminate the muffler (and flushed through it as best I could) because my engine is not out of the car and I could not get a crimping tool up into the space to crimp on new fitting.

Mine had to be removed when I reconfigured my motor mounts (4.9).
I was just going to have it relocated, but the folks at the A/C shop said it wouldn't hurt anything to remove it.
If there is any difference, it's that the compressor "chatters" a bit louder. Everything still works fine.

I used Cold Hose to lengthen the existing hose back in 2018 when adding an F40 6 spd.

It seems like Four Seasons PN 12034 may be the way to go. I hope to run aluminum lines behind the exhaust manifold down pipe, close the block, and then return to rubber hose. With the swivel potential, I could also run rubber down under the cradle and next to the oil pan.

Interesting fittings. I wonder if they'll work with the "washer" type insulators that are on the later compressors.
I'm not saying that ALL A/C lines are crimped. Just all of the ones that I've seen. Those that you posted also look like they need to be crimped.
Since the high pressure "vent" function is at ~250 lbs., I'm not sure what else would withstand that pressure.

I never have.

I'm hoping Cold Hose can set me up with the EZ Clip system that uses smaller OD hoses. I'll have to buy the proper pliers. Hopefully, they have a manifold block that will fit the FourSeasons PN 58255 AND allow the use of the popular EZ Clip fittings.

Otherwise, I'm stuck with the hydraulic crimp method.

It's really tight behind the Hooker manifold with the compressor installed.
