The 3800 is a very common motor that people were installing, but honestly, there's a lot of newer motors now that might be a better option. If you have a 3800 already, and that's what you want to go with, it's a pretty solid motor. Lots of kits available for it. But if you're scouting for a motor... it might be worthwhile to look at an LNF 2.0 Turbo, or something else.

Degree of difficulty depends entirely on your mechanical skillset, availability of needed tools and pocketbook.

Engine swaps are not typically "bolt in" operations.

The 3800 engine with the 4T65eHD is one of the more basic swaps, but you will need new mounts, run a belt modification, construct new axles, modify the exhaust system, transmission linkage, water lines, fuel lines, fuel pump and wire it up for a new combined harness. In many cases this will be swapping an engine 25 years old and low mileage engines would be quite hard to find.
