I need help finding parts but don't know what I need, since I got a job so I can now start buying parts.

First need both decklid vents. The ones for the SE that I find online are just metal mesh, while the GT ones are proper looking vents. Are the SE vents just a metal mesh or am I missing something. below are 2 photos from online of the vents.

I also need what I think is the ECU or ECM. It the big box computer for the engine that is inside of the center console between the 2 seats. I have no idea what exact model I need. The car has a V6 engine.

Don't specifically look up for se Fieros, there are 4 different styles of decklid vents, 84 solid plastic, 85 (notchback only and much much thicker and heavier duty than later ones) 86+ notchback (what your looking for) and 86+ fastback (your pictured "GT" one).

All notchback vents have the pictured metal mesh underneath, but the whole vent itself is different than the 86+fastback vents, the notchback ones are indeed just a "square", but look similar to the pictured "GT" vent.

This is what you need, I think it's the stronger 85 one to.

The only difference in the back decklid vents is the construction, they are all cross compatible, just not the fastback ones. The 85 ones are stronger though.

If I may make a few corrections to your post.....

The 84 solid covers are cast magnesium.

The notchback vents featured two styles of under-vent grating - the mesh that you have pictured as well as a "cheese grater" style.

The 88 notchback vents had 2 inboard hold down holes, so they would fit pre-88 and 88 models.

I have not noticed any difference in the 85 notchback castings as far as thickness or weight compare to 86-87.

I thought the center one was magnesium and the outer solid was plastic, good to know.

My 85 had the honeycomb, my dad's 86 has the cheese grater style, my 85 is solid and would be more than strong enough to stand on, my dad's 86 vents, the individual louvers can be flexed fairly easily by hand.

Your first photo is a Fastback Engine Grill/Vent
Your second photo is a Notchback Screen {without the grill/vent} which is the original type

TIP: Don't spray paint the grills/screens; powder coat instead

I also need what I think is the ECU or ECM.

The computer isn't a problem; however, the PROM {Programmable Read Only Memory} chip MUST be correct for the vehicle {see the chart in the link}

olejoedad, l think the 85 vents were also magnesium. Both my 85 GT grills were beefier than my 86 SE grill.

Charlie, I think you're correct.
I remember hearing or reading that sometime in the last 31 years of Fiero ownership and wrenching on them.
I think they went to aluminium for the 86 model year.

so I looked at the sheet. how do I find the PROM number I need. there is a bunch of them that don't seem to connect to anything

I think it might be FBA1819. but I'm not to sure. I went 86-Auto-Federal and got that number.

They all connect in horizontal rows, you start from the left, and pick what you have based on the options, then move right in that column to the next set of options, v6 or l4, then is it 84,5,6,7, or 88, then is it an automatic, 4 speed or 5 speed, then what size tires if applicable, then was it sold in California, or everywhere else in the US/Canada. Once you go through that, you'll have 2 numbers, the ECM number (which is the same for 86-8, hence it being less important), and the prom number (the actual chip inside the ECM that has parameters that must match the engine and transmission that you have)

I think i have the prom but how do i find a ecm with that prom. Ive been looking on ebay but everybody only labels the ecm number and not the prom number that is in it.

Some eBay sellers won't say the PROM {you need to ask}
Some sell the computer without the PROM {you need to buy the PROM separate}
Some will show the computer for "Engine/Transaxle"
Some show "Computer 1227170 AKYN" which AKYN is the PROM

GM sells remanufactured computers separate from the PROM

btw I have been asking. nobody seems to know what the prom is. I've been telling them its the chip inside. Is there a way to find it without taking it apart since I know a lot of sellers don't want to just start taking things a apart and risk breaking them.

One and the same. You should be good to go. Provided that you have an automatic. (I just looked back through the thread, and didn't see any mention of what trans you have.)
