I have a Fiero Formula V6. The previous owner removed most of the emissions wiring, and everything has been plugged off—except for one thing. I recently noticed an open nozzle on the gas tank. Should this be capped off, or is it supposed to be left open? I think maybe this was connected to the evap canister?

There are 3 connections to the fuel tank other than the large fill and vent hoses: A fuel feed, a fuel return, and the vapour cannister line. This should be connected to the vapour cannister. The fuel feed, a fuel return, and the vapour cannister line are connected to the steel pipes that come from the fuel level sending gauge in the top of the fuel tank.
That is the vent line and it will be venting flammable gas vapors as the fuel in the tank heats up. Under the right conditions liquid fuel can come out the vent line as well.
It is supposed to be attached to the expansion tank in the passenger rear wheel well and attached ot the outside of the upper frame rail.
The 87/88 expansion was done to allow a larger gas tank and more fuel in the tank with the expansion of vapors in the small expansion tank. At a bare minimim, I would run a hose from that barb back to the expansion tank.
The expansion tank should be attached to the charcoal canister, to help elimnate the gas vapor smell.
I have been fighting installing this damn hose for at least 4 hours after changing the fuel pump... it is my nemesis. At least I know it won't come back off.

I recently changed the fuel pump on my car. I cheated by spaying silicone on the outside of the pipe and inside the hose. It slipped on easily after that.
Thank you for all the information, I plan to reconnect this line back to the fuel tank expansion tank eventually. In the meantime, could leaving this nozzle open cause any other issues? Specifically, would it affect the fuel pressure or overall system performance?
