so ive noticed everyone pretty much runs 1 style of quarter window scoop and im not sure why? i like these more but they arent easy to find anymore and not quite aggressive enough now i mocked up something more akin to a "exotic car" style, like someone bolted an imsa scoop to a quarter window and made it flow(im using scraps til i get paid them ill be making it from cheap polycarbonate and integrating the scoop into it) the issue i can see is if i do it wrong and like i wanted to here in this mockup the air will get behind the mounting surface and will probably rip the bolts out of the body. if i make this more of a 2 piece and bolt that together i can mold the scoop to a 3 inch long almost full height section to throw the air backwards towards the spoiler and reduce my low pressure area behind the glass
based on the fact i cant find the style i want on a irl car it might be ill fated from the start. mind you i have to modify this design since im not cutting a huge hole in the main pillar to fit air intakes to (well...not this gt maybe a much worse one with a roll cage or other reinforcement done)
There were really only the 2 models that were made of the scoop. One without the window like you posted, and one with the window like below. That's why you mainly see that style on most cars.

The thing that I've always been concerned with those quarter window scoops is that they somewhat block the rear side view that makes it harder to see cars coming up on your right side. Here in the NE there are cars all over the place so the better the view the safer the drive becomes.

The less blind spots, the better. The quarter window scoop with the clear glass panel at least offers a bit more of a view over one's right shoulder.

im basically making that but with a much larger scoop. and i know there was the window style but i found it quite ugly which is ny preference as i usually drive fieros without ever needing to check in the improved blind spot area on the fastback as well... its block on every one ive ever actually driven. im still making a divided scoop but its going to be a curved clear panel bolted to a reinforcement strip sandwiching the body and then the scoop covering the tiny scoop looking area thats under the gt stock quarter window and it should look ok? i gotta mock it up with the thinnest sheetmetal thats widely available (scrap metal roofing) since i got a bunch of it a few months ago.
I was of the opinion that the stock quarter windows provided a vacuum which sucked out heat from the engine.
If the scoops you fancy does not allow more airflow in to the intake, what good are they, other than looks ?
im using them to in theory tunnel air to the spoiler right over that vent so in theory it makes a venturi effect? its not like my fastback vents actually have that many holes in them and i was going to end up modifing them since they broke anyways.
