Hello! I'm rebuilding one of my rear brake calipers, and after removing the piston, I noticed that the internal retainer was crooked and slightly dented:

I was able to tap it back into place and flatten out the dent with a roll punch, and the retainer itself now looks fine, but I noticed a gap in one of the washers under the retainer:

Just wanted to see if anyone knows if this gap in the washer is meant to be there or if it's cracked, and if that's an issue.

I'd prefer to not have to buy a whole caliper since the pistons aren't available anymore, but I will if this piston is shot. Thanks in advance.

Update: there is a small chunk of metal loose inside visible through the holes in the retainer. I'm going to go with "don't reuse the piston."

Replacement rear caliper pistons for Fieros are usually made of unobtainium. Your best bet is probably to purchase two, rebuilt 1988 calipers with good pistons.
