I would like to tackle this problem:
At idle, my oil pressure gauge flickers & dances. At normal and full oil pressure the dancing pretty much goes away and the needle will stay around 50 psi. Ya, I can live with it but I would like the gauge to behave more properly at idle.
What causes this? I know Fiero’s are famous for flickering gauges so I’m sure some of you are gonna be all over this. 😃 Is this a gauge issue, a grounding issue, a wiring issue or an oil pressure sender issue?

As an fyi I’m talking about my 85 GT and I have upgraded (quite a while back) to the aux. gauge pkg.

I would install a manual test gauge and see if you get a smooth reading. If not then I would say you should look farther as in oil pump and or engine bearings. if it does smooth then probably sender is on its way out. sleek

The 1988 senders were much more steady and reliable, so sometimes people update their old engines with the 1988-style sender. Requires replacement with the newer-style harness connector.

I would think both would be a likely culprit.

How smooth is your idle? If RPM is occillating at idle, it will cause the oil pressure to bounce wirth the RPM changes.

Idle is relatively smooth. The gauge fluctuates quite a bit at idle. I’m leaning toward a gauge issue. I think the advice above to try another gauge is a good one. I do have another aux. gauge pkg. I could try.
Stay tuned… Kit
