I am in the process of trying to adapt two generic power door lock actuators to my 85 Fiero GT like those on eBay. Might need a custom bracket but it looks like there's plenty of room in the door to locate the actuator. If you wish to add a remote control those are also available.

Check out item 175073821975

I was able to fit some generic $25 Amazon power door locks on my 84. theres plent of space in the door to fit them and also it came with some universal brackets that were easy enough to drill into the metal and mount inside the door. Ive had them in there for almost 2 years now and hey have not failed me yet.

The universal door lock kit that I have comes with two long metal brackets. They are not long enough to bridge the opening in the door so I will have to adapt another method. Some installations that I have seen with these universal power door lock openers, mount them directly on the inside of the door while others I have seen put a bracket across the opening and positioned the lock opener somewhat into the door space. The trick is that you need the door lock opener making a straight pull on the lock rod.

I replaced my door lock actuators on my '88 GT a couple of months ago. I used these:

I removed the brackets they came with, replaced them with the brackets from my originals, and they dropped right in.

Are those strong enough to lock and unlock the first time?

The power door lock actuators that I bought off ebay seem to pull very well. There was one guy here that put them on his car about two years ago and as far as I know they are still working. They are basically just simple electro-magnets pulling or pushing a plunger.

They work great so far, both operating and sounding much more definite than the originals. Of course, the originals worked very well too, when they were new and everything was clean. I also cleaned and lubed everything inside the door. Bottom line is they're great a couple of months in; for life and durability, check back in about 5 years.
