Fourteen (14") tires are fading away. After years of depression seeing 15" wheels at 15-17 pounds a lightweight wheel appeared for my 85 GT. On ebay KUDO in black (I wanted silver). Advertised as flow formed , 7" rim, ET 35, weight 10.8 lbs...I bit. On a bathroom scale 10.0 lbs. The narrowest clearance on my stock GT is at the rear upper strut bolt .300." I could not find country of origin , but probably Indonesia. Three wheels balanced with less than an ounce. The fourth took some weight , but did not concern the mounting shop.

Finally settled on General Altimax RT 45 195 55 15 . Mounted, one wheel weighs 26 lbs. The removed Michelin Ice in 14" were 8 years old and weighed 30 lbs each on aftermarket wheels.

The center caps KUDO furnished do not work. Front and rear axles protrude requiring up to an extra inch of depth . I could not find any center cap which would work. Further, the front oem metal dust cap is non standard so no chrome (or undented) caps could be prettied up.

(Purists should scroll on) I finally found a reasonable solution in a plastic dust cap , aka "caplug." The ones used are "24S," about $1 , but not plentiful (Cannon # 503 may work) First dress down the rear axle tips about 1/8" and remove the front oem metal dust caps. The plastic dust caps do not "SNAP" into the dedicated opening like a classic center cap, rather in a small counter bore above with a smaller "snap." I ran a very light bead of painters caulk on the dust cap lip. Paint 'em . Maiden mileage no problems.

It's old with warts ...do enjoy it more and more as I watch what is happening to auto industry. A ray of hope in buzz about a stripper pickup truck that is in demand and also the influx of Kei cars /trucks from Japan. Still mourning the Alpha 4C after US regs added ? 500 lbs and turned it into a porker.
