I'm a little OCD about it but also I'm in Ohio and the cops do not play around. I NEED my speedometer to be as accurate as possible. One of my car's previous owners installed 17" wheels and tires that are taller than stock, so the speedometer is wrong by a bit. Around town, that's not a big deal. On the highway, it's enough that I don't like it.
So, my brain goes to two different topics. Are there selectable VSS gears for these cars? Are there good tire options in the 15 or 16 inch rim sizes that are the same (or close to) 24.2" as the stock 215/60R14 tires? I've actually found some 17s that could work, which was surprising, but I wouldn't mind putting some GM wheels on the car that are 15 or 16 inches. I like stock-looking stuff on my cars but it's not the end of the world.
Another possible answer is a speedometer adapter, but I haven't used one of those in a LONG time. I don't even know if one can be used with a VSS.

you can modify the signal? speedometer adapter isn't really an option with these since its a direct drive to a (sqaure?) waveform like the later s10s and corvette and there isnt really any different gears you can use but theres this
https://www.tacomaworld.com...=245-75r16-285-80r16
i was using it for some free truck tires i have so change the sizes
as for a 15 its a 205/60/r15 or a 215 60 r15
both of mine are not stock so its a 225 55 r15 all around and the speedo isnt off at all somehow

You can size 17" tires to be nearly the same OD as the 215/60-15 tires. I use 225/45-17 and they hardly affect the speedometer reading by being only about 0.5 MPH higher.

Yeah, I've already got some tires lined up but I was just curious about other options. I'm not married to the 17 inch wheels.

You'll have to compare tire OD's and match to correct VSS gear.

You know... I found that post while I was searching and for some reason the info didn't compute properly and now I see that is actually the info I was looking for. I wish there was a larger selection, but that really does help. Thanks!

So... the tire sticker on the car indicates the car came with 215/60R14 tires. Sounded right. It has 215/55R17s on the rear right now. The GPS speed readings that I've taken were off compared to the speedometer of course, but not as far off as I expected. I shrugged that off. So after starting this topic I decided to check which VSS gear I have and it is actually the red one! The purple one would be the gear to pair with the 215/60R14s but a previous owner may have already changed it to make up for different tires. So that opens up a new realm of tire options for me. I'm finding that a lot of things are not what I expect on this car!
