Im about to put a 3100 SFI into my fiero, which has v6 mounts on it. I hear that the oil pan needs to be notched and the dog bone needs to be cut—I am wondering if there are any pictures of what this should look like. I haven’t started it yet but I pick the engine up on Tuesday.

How big will these cuts/ notches need to be? What’s the difference here between a notch and a cut? Trying not to screw myself over, and wondering what tools would be best to use to cut/notch correctly. I have a dremel, that’s what I assume would work.

Also, for the same swap—I think I will be keeping the alternator in the stock location, and I’ll notch the decklid…how have people gone about making an upper dogbone connection elsewhere? I see engine bay pictures with the stock alternator location and no upper dogbone to be found…thought maybe they are using solid mounts. Not sure where to source those.

For the 88 Fiero, the oil pan needs to be notched, 84-7 you notch the engine mount bracket that bolts on the engine, making a triangular area more L shaped, I used an angle grinder that I got from Walmart for $20 cad. I don't know about the dogbone because I'm using the Fiero top end. You can get weld on solid transmission mounts from Rodney, don't know about engine mount.
