Just for a little background, I am currently trying to restore an 88 Fiero Formula that I had inherited from my grandfather. The car was last registered in 2008 I believe, and I have had it for a few years but have finally decided to begin to work on it. Long story short my gas tank is quite rusty on the inside and has 4 small holes in it and was wondering how I can get another that is in good shape. I saw that Rodney Dickman had previously sold them, but I happen to be too late. Would someone perhaps have blueprints to build one? (I'm decent enough at welding to make one) Would it be worth trying to restore the tank i have, if so, how? If I built one, could I make it use the stock sending unit? I would be willing to buy one if anyone has one for sale.

I do not believe fuel tanks are eligible for shipping.
Beauty is skin deep. You mentioned "quite rusty". Also four holes. How did you find them ? An 88 gas tank is different than many Fieros. Or unique. A 87 Fiero gas tank may be the same. Others are smaller, holding less gallons, not mounting the same.

Are you looking to sell your Fiero ?
Im sure the rust can be cleaned but I'm not sure the best way to do so because of the baffles in the tank, I would like to be able to have the piece of mind of a newer tank. I'm not really interested in selling my fiero it's my first project car and I already have more money into it than I thought I would lol
You CAN ship a fuel tank, but it has to be cleaned well (basically flushed) and have no liquid or fluid in it at all. You'll want to box it up, and quite honestly... not mention it. The question is whether or not you're shipping anything flammable. A fuel tank itself is not flammable, and I've purchased brand new fuel tanks. Most companies will not ship a used fuel tank because there's the fear of it being flammable. But if you've flushed it, allowed it to completely air out and dry out (where it has no odor), it's no longer flammable... and thus you can ship it.
The 87-88 fuel tanks are the same. But you can fit any fuel tank from any year into any Fiero... the 87+ fuel tank was designed to be larger... I think it holds an additional gallon? The 84-86 fuel tanks only have like 10 gallons or something.
EDIT: to fit an 87-88 fuel tank in an older 84-86 Fiero, you need to change out the straps to the 87-88 ones... because it'll end up being a tighter fit and the older straps won't go around it as easily. You can buy (and should) new T-Bolts and nuts from the Fiero Store, and you can also get new straps from them as well. Otherwise, the space frames are basically identical.

Here is a tank design for this persons V8 conversion where he customized the fittings but you can always use his measurements to create a stock tank based on your existing tank that you pull from your vehicle. At least you'll have the general measurements.

I think I have came across this on the forum before, I'll try to clean my tank and restore it but if it comes to it I could always use this help me fabricate a new one
Thanks to anyone who tried to help, I plan to attempt to restore the tank I have and if that fails I'll build another one maybe of a slightly larger capacity. 👍
If you are going to repair your old tank you could use Caswell epoxy fuel tank sealer. It's not cheap but it's about the only sealer that will stick to the plastic baffles inside the tank. This stuff is extremely durable.
