I finally got to the point where I can install these straps (aka limit cables) on one of my decklid hinges.. The instructions on Rodney's website say when installing the new rivets "use a large drift and hammer, go at a slight angle and walk around the edge of the rivet until it is well peened over."

I havent peened rivets before, is the goal to just make the rivet slightly larger in diameter to "lock it ", I get the impression that I don't need to slam extremely hard and mushroom this thing?

Did you looked at Rodney's site which has photos to 'How' to install them?

And yes, peed means flatten or 'mushroom' - look at this link:

As an alternative, the rivets could be welded in place. That's what I did with my Fiero.
