Wanting to put a 05 3400 in one of my cars just wondering what all involved in doing that swap I'm changing the motor and trans just trying to see what all needs to get changed over

Hi, you say a 2005 3.4 liter?

The 3.4 from the 93-97 was a direct-swap into the Fiero... needing only a hole drilled for the starter to be relocated, and a small bung adaptor for the oil pressure sensor... everything else swaps over.


But I think the 3.4 you're talking about is the 3400 Series motor from the Grand Ams, Aleros, etc.? There's a couple of people here who are experts on those... La Fiera, Lou Dias, and I think a couple of others. But best I can figure, the 3400 has the same engine mount location, so it fits with no problem, and they even offer a 6-Speed manual for it. But if you're going with an automatic... you'd need a 4T60 or 4T60E, and then pretty much everything else changes. Custom coolant hoses, fuel lines, etc. You'd want to keep as much from the original car as possible.... including the engine harness and ECM.

Thanks for the info I'm getting the whole car so I will have everything I need to get from it a question will the trans work out of that car or would I have to change that to the ones you suggested

Hi, can you tell me what car it is? It may actually be a 4T60E, in which case it'll easily fit. There's some slight modifications you'll need to make if you have an 88... but you haven't told us what kind of Fiero you have yet.

2 - What kind of donor car are you getting?

Sorry about leaving out need info I've got a 86 gt the donor car is a 05 grand am auto like I said I'm getting the whole car

Yeah, use that link I included. The entire engine should drop in no problem, just some slight modification you'll need to make by moving the bolt hole location for one of the transmission mounts, etc. The website I linked has all the info for axles, etc.

You'll want to ALSO get the entire engine management and gauge cluster from the engine as well, just to make sure everything is running properly.


Note: there's a couple of things you can do. You can re-use the gauge cluster from the donor car's computer, or you can adapt your existing gauge cluster (what I'd prefer to do) by using analog sensors, like a separate temperature sensor, tach filter, etc.

Or, you could do something like get a MegaSquirt ECM / system and build your own engine harness (might be a bit easier and less convoluted).

But again, yeah... that engine / transmission configuration will fit really well in the Fiero with too much effort.

i want to do this on my 1987 2.5.i have a good trans.

It seems to me that what you need are rubber mounts for an 85-86 Automatic Fiero, the transmission (which you have), and then new axles:

"The stock Fiero axles cannot be used with the four speed automatic. For a 4T60 you can use right and left axle assemblies for a '89 Pontiac 6000 with 4T60 and light duty brakes. The correct part numbers are A1 Cardone P/Ns are 60-1115 and 60-1078 or CCT 8471 left and 8430 right."
