It's been a few years since I did rear brakes but I do not remember it being impossible to get the inner pad retainer over the piston. My grooves don't line up as they should with the clips. Any secrets you wise gents

Is/Was 2 "clips..."

Wire type for Old Style Pistons w/o 4 notches. Wire just snaps on.
Stamped SS for New Style Pistons w/ 4 notches to attach them. Clip ears goes in the notches then turn 90°.

I *just* did these this week. I had to bend the tabs on the clip just slightly and it snapped on. Same with where it connects to the pad ..it's like all the new clips come set up for a different caliper piston. Just go a little at a time until it finally snaps on, make sure the boot isn't interfering with the fit. If you are reusing old calipers, maybe clean the top of the piston with a wire brush to make sure there's no crud keeping the retainer clip from attaching. (Careful not to tear the boot)

Finally, I just ran the last 25k miles without the clips after my last brake job so if you can't get it to go on, just hold the inboard pad in place as you install the caliper on the rotor. It works, pad never flew out of there or anything.

Thanks gents. The piston on the left rear looked funky and only had one spot to put clips in and rotate it. Right side piston looked right and no issue with that retainer. Thanks again

The clips hold inner pad so:
Won't drag and wear fast or cause brake heat.
Won't rattle and wear the bracket or make noise can hear by driver or others.
