I have a question related to the timing control module.
My '88 Fiero GT 3.4L died on the interstate, it turned out to be a bad ignition coil. Replaced it but the engine wasn't running good. Replaced the ignition timing module and the performance was back to normal. However, this seems to last for about 10-15 minutes and then it seems like I have a bad ignition module again, tried another module, same thing. Checked my base timing, took the average of cylinder 1 & 4, made a minor adjustment, still have this issue.
I noticed that at higher RPMs, 3k+, it runs smoother, as if the timing is stuck at some advance setting were the ECM is not controlling timing advance any more, is my guess.
When I look at the circuit diagram and since I do not have a code 42 I think I have reduced my check list to the following:
1) A ground problem?
2) Maybe the advanced signal between the ECM to the EST has an intermittent connection?
3) ECM issues?
Anything else I can add to this list?
Anyone ever experienced this problem?
Any suggestions on what could be causing this?
