So my 84' has a front compartment light, so I assumed there was a trunk one as well but when I went to look there was absolutely nothing there. I was looking in the actual storage part of the trunk where I was told it would be. Am I just blind or did some of the early models not include a trunk ight?

Furthermore, in my search I discovered this socket right next to the driver side deck hinge and the relays, does anyone know what it is for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My '84 SE and '88 Formula have factory trunk lights; my '86 base coupe did not.
I fished the wire harness through and installed the light in the top center forward wall hole that was already there behind the carpet.
I also fished the wire through the deck lid and installed the solenoid operated deck lid release which also connects the lid-open switch for the light.
The dash connector was already there for the switch.

On '84 models, the trunk light switch is a vertical operating push switch in the left rear corner of the engine compartment:

If There Trunk Light is In the trunk on front wall for all Fiero. Not on the deck lid.
If car doesn't have the light, the locations is "plugged" w/ gray plastic in about same shape as light.

84 85 Trunk Power Latch has connector on left hinge labeled C402 in FSM etc. (86-88 is 4 pin weather pack on right hinge.)
Car can have part of power latch wiring even tho doesn't have the option and thus missing the switch solenoid and other parts.

Thank you both. Surprising how much hardware is for the trunk release mechanism that is already installed. There is no light in the actual trunk part of the trunk, so I guess there is no trunk light in my model. Oh well.

I wonder if your car has an aftermarket replacement carpet in the trunk? If so, it probably didn't come with a cutout for the trunk light, and the previous owner didn't install one.

I've never used the light in my trunk (I pulled the bulb out on about the second day I owned the car) but years later when I bought a new trunk carpet I very carefully measured and cut out a new hole in it for the trunk light. The light bezel helps to hold the carpet in the right position on the engine side of the trunk.

I'm guessing was blinding you at night trying to find whatever in there?

That issue is part of why some have different mod's for them for Fiero. Years ago, Someone found OE light from some car that act like a "trouble light" w/ reel for the cord. Others mod the lid to mount a light.

Now likely some 12v LED strips can work and be mounted higher and point down to light w/o blinding or buried by truck stuff.
Example: Narrow strips maybe could be hidden by bottom of trunk seal for nochies...
But Remember "12v" in cars means 14+v when engine runs and may Overdrive LED rated to have 12v and kill them. Many products already OD the LED at the rated volts to start and don't last long.
