A fellow Fiero-er stopped by to do some work on his car...When he arrived there was a very strong gasoline smell....started checking and found that fuel was welling up out of the fuel Rail schrader valve......(No cap)

I tried to tighten it but still leaking, so I took the cap from my car and screwed it on, which stopped the leak so he could drive back home (75 miles)

Questions; 1) Schrader valve; What is the part number and where would it be available?

2) Where can I get him(Or me) a new cap- are they A) available for purchase or B) what other cars use the same cap?

Any help would be appreciated!

IIRC the stem in that valve housing is a common replacement part. Its been a long time since I fooled with one but IIRC it was the same size as the ones used on the A/C ports. Removal requires a special tool. Remove the valve and head down to a full line auto store for a replacement.

Thanks Dennis....But what about that cap? Are there other cars that use the same CAP? (There are no Fieros around here in the JYs at the moment)

Just grab one from any pretty much any other car in the junkyard. The threads on a Schrader valve haven't changed since dinosaurs roamed the earth. Most newer cars have plastic caps.

I wouldn't take one from a tire though.... Who knows, it might melt. Get one from a fuel rail.
