I’ve got my engine compartment almost ready for my 3800sc Series II engine ready to go in.

For heat shielding and sound insolation I decided to go with DEI’s Floor/Tunnel Shield.

https://www.designengineeri...eld-ii-non-adhesive/

It was the closest thing to the original, but with the aluminum layer covering the fiberglass, I think it’s going to be far superior and last better.

I was able to cut it with heavy duty scissors ✂️ and a utility knife. I used plastic retainers in the original locations to hold the radiant heat and sound insulation to the firewall, but used black RTV along the top edge near the back glass, and ind other locations I wanted to glue down. I sealed the seams and cleaned up some of the rough cuts with DEI Cool Tape.

On the rear wall where the exhaust will be, I added a sheet of DEI’s “Cool Sheet” material to give an extra layer of radiant heat shielding.

I had originally purchased some Chinese made stuff off eBay, that looked the same in pictures, but turned out to be junk. The foam based stuff isn’t fire retardant and shouldn’t be used in the engine compartment.

For the firewall templates, I was able to purchase from Allen McKibben at
Simple Signman (SimpleSignman@gmail.com)

The cost of the template is $22 + shipping. The template can be shipped folded or rolled.

That really looks good. I now regret that when I had my engine out all I did was clean up the existing insulation.

The bling factor is high

I am wondering, how is this stuff to wash later on when the crevices collect dirt/dust? Will a washmitt or towel get in there?

This stuff was very easy to clean... I had a torn axle CV boot that spewed grease all over my engine compartment and I was able to clean it right off easily.

That heat and sound insulation job will produce good results and is well done. At one time there was a firewall pattern available that would save the job of measuring and cutting the insulation but the guy that sold them retired and they are no longer available.

Great timing.... I found this thread the other day and wanted to ask how it was holding up. My engine is out, my "textile" sound deadening is in piss-poor shape and I was hunting for alternatives.

I really don't mind the sound of the engine right behind me, but I am very interested in thermal management.
