I did a fair amount of autocrossing and drag racing, both with KYB and Koni dampers. IMO, the KYBs were inadequate for racing. The Konis were good, though.

I was able to make the front suspension on my '87 Fiero adjustable for ride height. But it required modifying the suspension crossmember. Not for the feint of heart! You can read about it in my build thread: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum3/HTML/000049.html

K so then it has the front of an 85 and the rear of an 88

That's actually the most desirable setup for racing. I had the same setup in my Fiero.
