Hmmm if you have already exceeded the minimum efficiency rating what is their gripe?

Mine is always tested the standard way (without application of footbrake). I am going to ask for it done the correct way next time but mayhaps this is not possible on the rolling road to test efficiency of handbrake.......which would give you a reason to request one of the other testing methods.

There also has to be some common sense applied.....it is a parking brake not an emergency J turn brake...at more than 16% it is fit for purpose.

We have VOSA (Vehicles and Operators Agency) here who oversee MOT testing..... Are you able to speak to them??

They were not using the garage rollers, so the car could never pass. I am going to the Tester headquarters on Friday. Common sense? German's are not known for that! :O

On Saturday I drove to a different Test station that is familiar with classic and American cars. Funny enough, although the brakes were not great by any standards, using the correct procedure, they passed!! I now have my Inspection sticker and two years before beginning this fiasco again.

Lessons learned:

1. Don’t waste time trying to convince a German official when they are in the wrong.
2. Always take your car to the experts
3. Always come to the Fiero Forum, as the help is second to none.
4. Since I now know everything there is to know about Fiero brakes, I will never have this problem again!

Once again to all that offered advice, it was much appreciated and received with gratitude. Now, I am going back out to have a blast!!!

Yes, same problems in France sometimes. For my Fiero, I use a "contrôle technique" station that happens to be run by a Porsche 930 (911 turbo, the original one, fat wheel arches, whale tail etc...) owner. We restored our cars at the same time and were commenting on the same forums. It helps a bit when passing an old "different" car.

Handbrake efficiency 34%! That was a good surprise.
