Can't seem to figure this one out. It's an 86 GT, and I just swapped in a 3800. I took it for a quick test drive last week, and it shifted just fine. Then I pulled the engine again because I was having problems with oil pressure. Fixed the problem, put the engine back in, and now suddenly it is grinding when I try to let out the clutch in 2nd gear and the car doesn't move. All other gears work fine. I've tried adjusting the cables as I always do, and bleeding the clutch system even though I never messed with it. Any ideas?

...I would adjust the cables, and console mech again from scratch...There is much to be found here in the search feature...Can you manually put it in 2ed back at the trans and see if it drives okay without jumping out of gear. If it won't stay in gear then I would suspect a transmission problem...

I tried searching, couldnt find anything with grinding only when enguaging clutch, specifically. Turned out to be a stretched shift cable, that was stretched beyond being able to adjust it enough on the linkage. Since the cable still moves freely, I just adjusted the cable mounting bracket back a bit, since I'm using Rodney's repair bracket. Works great now.

It may work for a while, but it will stretch some more... start saving $ for a new cable....
