How do people generally remove the stock ignition coil bracket from the old coil? I purchased a new Delphi coil to freshen up the engine bay and it came with some flimsy brackets that I can't make any sense of.

Grind or chisel the heads off the rivets of the old bracket, then replace them with screws, lock washers and nuts or locking nuts.

No mater how you change the brackets...
HEI coils should have iron "core" grounding to the block. Often will have problems when you don't have this.
